Professor Fletcher's invention of the CellScope, which is a Nokia device with a microscope attachment, was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world. All the minuscule detail was shot using CellScope technology and a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics.

Here's a film taking you behind the scenes on 'Gulp', Aardman's world record breaking short film. It reveals what went in to making such a complex film outside and away from the controlled environment of a studio, and how it was shot using a Nokia N8.

'Gulp' is a short film created by Sumo Science at Aardman, depicting a fisherman going about his daily catch. Shot on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales, every frame of this stop-motion animation was shot using a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. The film has broken a world record for the 'largest stop-motion animation set', with the largest scene stretching over 11,000 square feet.

a few minutes into this music video there is a typography sequence that i really like. they use different typefaces in varying sizes and color to express the sounds and the lyrics. the type is done in a sort of stop frame style to create a feel of movement and a visual equaliser to go along with the song

my tutor showed me this video, its a music video shot in a time lapse style. the song is by graffiti6 (stare into the sun), creatively directed by Jimi Crayon, filmed and produced by Stereofarms Dave Graham

this video is shot from one view point, and is a time lapse of a mural being painted and the chopped down to create a logo. being from one view point the video is focusing on one thing but the amount of energy from the workers and the mural itself transforming keeps it entertaining and shows a lot of detail.

Photography Lesson

We had an introduction to Photography, looking at how a camera works. The diagrams above are of a SLR (single lens reflex) and an older technique TLR (twin lens reflex). They are the two main systems for a camera. Photography uses the law of physics called refraction, which is how light travels. In cameras they use a series of mirrors to refract the light and produce an image to capture on your film or in a modern camera on the sensor.

The amount of light that reaches the camera film or sensor. Exposure is controlled by the ISO, Aperture and the Shutter speed

AWB (auto white balance) function on a camera, gives you the option to use in fluorescent lighting that will give a green tinge to the image. Tungsten lighting that will give a yellow tinge, or daylight that will give a blue tinge to the image.

Sumo Science- design studio with great animations

I came into class today and saw a classmate researching for our Rich Media Project. He was looking at a time lapse construction of some lego building blocks. There was some building caravans, cars and just creative things to make an entertaining video. There was little scenes of the lego people doing things which i thought was cool and a good idea to try a little time lapse scene or construction.

Our first week on our rich media project we have looked at a range of media techniques. We looked at the basics of video capture and editing, we will look at other forms of media such as animation, sound recording and using flash player. We have looked at a few artists and work from students, mainly consisting of stop frame animations and then we got feedback on how they were made and how we can be inspired to make our own.

RICH MEDIA:

Rich media is a term to define singularly or in combination a range of techologies, including but limited to sound, video, flash and/or other emergent technologies within a context or an environment, web, virtual or physical space.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

• Develop an experimental approach to new and emergent media
• Explore communication strategies for new and emergent media
• Learn about the application of new and emergent technologies
• Keep an ongoing record of explorations and developments in a BLOG                                     (1ooo words)

 

Brief:

Choose from one of the briefs below:

• (A) Create a set of interactive instructions using photography or video with an appropriate
   multimedia software.

• (B) Produce a piece of interactive media that shows one journey from different/varying viewpoints.

• (C) Create a visual timeline from a personal interpretation of history and present using sound, photography, video or an appropriate motion graphics.  

For this project, instead of keeping a research file and a sketch book we get to show our development on a blog.
